How We Compare to Other Platforms

Most freelancing platforms charge massive fees that eat into both client and worker earnings. Here's how MATRIX stacks up against the competition:

Feature MATRIX Upwork Fiverr
Poster fee 3% flat 5% per project 5.5% + $2 per order
Worker fee 0% — free 20% on first $500 20% on each order
Subscription None — free forever $14.99/mo Freelancer Plus Seller Plus memberships
Total effective fee on $1,000 $30 (3%) $200+ (20%) $200+ (20%)
Escrow protection Stripe manual capture Yes (hourly only) Limited
Worker Stripe required No Yes Yes
Geo-tagged proof Yes No No
Save 85% on fees compared to Upwork and Fiverr.

A $1,000 project on Upwork costs the client $1,050 and the worker loses $200 in fees — that's $250 in total platform costs. On MATRIX, the exact same $1,000 project costs the client $1,030, and the worker receives the full $1,000. You save $220 and the worker earns $200 more. It's not just cheaper — it's fundamentally fairer.

What's Included in the 3% Fee

When you pay the 3% platform fee, you're not just paying for transaction processing. You're getting a complete escrow ecosystem:

No Hidden Fees — Ever

We believe in radical transparency. There are no monthly subscription fees, no "membership tiers," no fees for withdrawing your money, no fees for posting a mission (you only pay when it funds), and no surprise charges. The 3% fee is clearly displayed before every transaction. What you see is what you pay.

This is possible because MATRIX was built differently — as a lean, modern platform without the overhead of traditional marketplaces. We don't spend millions on advertising. We don't have layers of management. We built a system that works efficiently and pass the savings directly to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MATRIX really free to sign up?
Yes. Creating an account costs nothing. You can browse missions, manage your profile, and communicate with other users without ever paying a fee. You only pay when you fund a mission — that's it.
Do workers pay any fees at all?
No. Workers pay nothing — zero fees on MATRIX. When a mission is released, the worker receives the full mission amount. Compare this to Upwork where workers pay 20% on their first $500 with each client, or Fiverr where 20% is deducted from every order. MATRIX is the only platform where workers keep 100% of what they earn.
Are there any monthly subscriptions?
No subscriptions at all. Unlike Upwork (which charges $14.99/month for Freelancer Plus) or Fiverr (which has Seller Plus memberships), MATRIX has no monthly fees. You pay only when you post a funded mission — no recurring charges whatsoever.
How is the 3% fee calculated on a $1,000 mission?
Simple: $1,000 × 3% = $30. You pay $1,030 total at checkout. The worker receives the full $1,000 when payment is released. No additional deductions, no hidden processing fees, no payout charges.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported on mobile devices. We're actively working on adding bank transfer (ACH) funding options for U.S. clients.
Are there any fees for disputes or chargebacks?
No. Dispute resolution is included in the 3% fee. We don't charge extra for admin review. In the rare case of a chargeback initiated through the card network, Stripe's standard chargeback fee applies (typically $15), which we pass through at cost — we don't profit from chargebacks.
What is the minimum amount to post a mission?
The minimum mission amount is $10. With the 3% fee, the minimum total charge is $10.30. There is no maximum — we support missions of any size, with additional KYC verification for amounts over $10,000.
