Our Mission

MATRIX exists to make freelance work fundamentally fairer. The traditional gig economy is built on a broken model: platforms take 20% of every transaction, workers jump through hoops to get paid, and clients have no real protection if the work isn't delivered. We believe there's a better way.

Our mission is simple: provide a mission escrow platform that charges a transparent 3% flat fee, pays workers the full amount they earn (no deductions), and protects every transaction with Stripe-powered escrow. No subscriptions. No hidden fees. No arbitrary account holds. Just honest, secure work-for-payment exchanges.

We're building for a world where workers keep what they earn and clients pay only for what they get. Every feature we ship — from geo-tagged proof submissions to 48-hour dispute resolution — is designed to rebuild trust in online work. Trust that was eroded by decades of opaque fee structures, one-sided dispute systems, and middlemen taking too big a cut.

The Story Behind the Name

In astronomy, Matrix (Pi Orionis) is one of the brightest stars in the constellation Orion. It's a spectral type B2 giant — incredibly luminous, burning hot, and visible from virtually anywhere on Earth. For centuries, sailors navigated by Matrix. It was a fixed point of light in a chaotic sky — something you could trust to guide you home.

That's exactly what we want MATRIX to be: a guiding light in the often confusing world of online work. A fixed point of trust. A star you can navigate by when you're trying to figure out whether a client will pay, whether a worker will deliver, or whether the platform is charging you fairly. We named the platform after a star because trust should be as constant and reliable as the North Star — not something that flickers or fades depending on which way the platform's business model is blowing.

Team Philosophy

MATRIX was built by a small, focused team of engineers, designers, and operations specialists who were frustrated with existing freelancing platforms. We've all been on both sides of the transaction — payingTooMuch as clients and gettingNickelAndDimed as workers. MATRIX is our answer to that frustration.

Our Commitment to Fair Work

Fair work means three things at MATRIX:

• Fair Pay: Workers keep every dollar they earn. No 20% deductions, no "membership fees" to access better rates, no withdrawal fees. The mission amount is what the worker receives.
• Fair Fees: Clients pay a flat 3% — not a sliding scale that increases with mission size. Whether you're posting a $100 task or a $50,000 project, the fee is always 3%. No bait-and-switch pricing.
• Fair Process: Disputes are resolved by a neutral admin within 48 hours, based on documented evidence. Both parties get a fair hearing. The escrowed funds ensure that neither side can walk away empty-handed.

We don't claim to be perfect. But we commit to being honest — about what we charge, about how security works (the platform-secured vs. immutable distinction on our Security page is a good example of this), and about our limitations. When you use MATRIX, you're using a platform built by people who actually use it themselves. We eat our own dogfood. Every feature we launch, we've used in real transactions. Every fee we charge, we've paid ourselves.

MATRIX is small, independent, and fiercely committed to staying that way. We're not looking for a billion-dollar exit. We're building a sustainable platform that does one thing well: make online work fair for everyone.
